County Cricket Ground (Riverside) Chester-le-Street is the home ground of the Durham County Cricket Club. Though the ground existed from the 1890s, it was used significantly only in 1992 when New Zealand played Durham in a tour match at this stadium.
Durham were given first-class status on condition that the county were to build a test standard stadium. Following the agreement, a world-class stadium was built at Chester-le-Street and the ground became England's first 'new stadium' to host a test since 1902 when it hosted a test match between Zimbabwe and England in 2003. Though just one more test has been played at the stadium, the ground has been holding ODI matches regularly for sometime now.
The County Cricket Ground (Riverside) Chester-le-Street is not a very large ground and can seat about 15,000 spectators. It is located at a very picturesque location, but transportation is a problem as the ground is situated at a fair distance from the train and bus stations.
