The Sahara Stadium Kingsmead, Durban is one of the largest cricket stadiums in South Africa and its location, just a little far away from the sea, makes it one of the most picturesque stadiums of the country. The stadium has been hosting Test matches since 1932.
Kingsmead, as it is popularly called, is also significant as it was the ground where South Africa played their first Test after returning to international cricket. The massive stadium can seat over 25,000 spectators. When a Test series is on in South Africa, the Sahara Stadium generally hosts the Boxing Day Test.
The stadium is also known for producing bizarrely contrasting scores. While it was on this ground that South Africa made a staggering 658 for 9 against West Indies in 2004 and Graeme Pollock scored a individual 274 in 1970, it was also on this very ground that India were dismissed for a mere 66 runs in 1996. It was also in this stadium that Kenya's fairytale journey in the 2003 World Cup ended when they lost the semifinal to India at the Sahara Stadium.
