Infamous as the English captain who first implemented the tactics of Bodyline bowling, Bob Wyatt was one of England's most successful batsman and also a very determined captain. He made his international debut against South Africa in 1927 and three years later was appointed as England captain. However he soon lost the job to Douglas Jardine. He was the vice-captain during the Bodyline series and in a tour game prior to the start of the series, which Jardine did not play, Bob Wyatt was captain and implemented the Bodyline tactic. Later, when Jardine resigned as captain following the aftermath of the Bodyline series, Bob Wyatt was once again made captain and remained so for 15 Tests. He was a very good batsman and in his 40 international Tests he scored 1,839 at an average of 31.70, and took 18 wickets at an average of 35.66. He played first class cricket till he was 56 years old and lived to see his 83rd birthday and was then the oldest living English cricketer.
