Wisden Cricketer of the Year 1928 Douglas Jardine signed an inviolable pact with notoriety, which has to this day endured, when he came up with the "Bodyline strategy". According to the strategy, the English bowlers were to attack the bodies of the Australian batsmen, especially Don Bradman. The series caused a huge furore in Australia, as most of their batsmen suffered injuries. Even though the English managed to win the Ashes in 1932-33, by 4-1, Douglas Jardine made himself the most unpopular man in Australia. The 1930 Ashes, in which Douglas Jardine had not participated, had ended in favor of the Australians largely due to the mammoth contribution from Don Bradman who scored 874 runs in the series.

Douglas Jardine was appointed the captain for the series the following year. He got together with two fast bowlers from Nottinghamshire- Harold Larwood and Bill Voce and devised ways of combating Don Bradman's run scoring abilities. Douglas Jardine participated in 22 tests and scored 1296 runs at an average of 48. His 262 first-class matches brought him 14848 runs at an average of 46.83. livescore.warofcricket.com gives information on Douglas Jardine and other Great Cricket Players.
