Full name Nicholas Verity Knight Born November 28, 1969, Watford, Hertfordshire Current age 36 years Major teams England, Essex, Warwickshire Playing role Batsman Batting style Left-hand bat Bowling style Right arm medium
Nick Knight exhibited very different styles in the two forms of the game. While he was a flamboyant opening batsman, ripping the bowling apart in the one-day internationals, he was more composed in the tests, and also more prone to throwing his wicket away. Playing mostly in the shorter version of the game, he was surprisingly dropped from the 1999 World Cup squad. The decision, though harsh, made him work harder and he returned to the team. In 2003, after number of remarkable innings in the VB Series against Australia, he was back in the team. However, after England's dismal performance in the 2003 World Cup, Nick Knight decided to take a break from ODIs and concentrated on the longer version of the game. He is at present the captain of Warwickshire and continues to be one of the greatest fielders in the world. He has stated his desire to retire by the end of 2006, and has taken up the job of a commentator.
