Wisden Cricketer of the Year 1975
Tony Greig was one of the most controversial figures in the cricket world, in its innocent pre-match fixing days. Whether it was conniving at the formation of Kerry Parker's World Cricket Series or the infamous run out case involving Kallicharan, Tony Greig played with muck most of his cricketing career.
Tony Greig, if not for his knack of fomenting controversy, was an immensely likeable and articulate person. Most of his admirers remember him for his heroic innings of 110 against the fearsome pace of Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thompson in 1974-75.
Apart from being a wonderful batsman, Tony Greig was a very useful bowler. He took 141 wickets from his 58 test matches. Tony Greig scored 3599 runs in his test career at an average of 40.43. He also made 22 one-day appearances and scored 269 runs and took 19 wickets.
Tony Greig was the captain of England from 1975 to 1977.
