Full name Ashish Nehra Born April 29, 1979, Delhi Major teams India, Asia XI, Delhi Batting style Right-hand bat Bowling style Left-arm medium-fast
Ashish Nehra has all the qualities of a good left arm seam bowler: swing, pace, variation, and the ability to move the ball on both sides of the wicket. After making a successful Test debut against Sri Lanka in 1999, he continued his good form, and had a great run in the ODIs as well. However, his form started to deteriorate and soon the edge was lost from his bowling, and adding to his woes were a string of injuries. But he fought back and was an integral part of the 2003 World Cup team that performed so well. His performance against England specially stood out when he took a career best of 6 for 23 and helped India win the match. His performance against Pakistan in 2004 was also commendable. However, his inconsistency and the emergence of a string of new fast bowlers have resulted in him losing his permanent place in the side. But given his talent and experience, Ashish Nehra will fancy his chances of a comeback to the Indian national squad.
