A stylish left handed batsman, Mohammad Kaif burst into the international circuit after successfully leading the Indian Under 19 team to World Cup victory. He got a chance to represent India in Test matches at age 20 and though he made a decent debut against South Africa, he was sidelined afterwards. However he continued to be an integral part of the one day squad and played many a successful innings to help India out of difficult positions. A special mention must go to his brilliant knock of 87 not out off only 75 balls in the 2002 NatWest Series Final against England. It earned him his first man-of-the match award and also kind of assured him a permanent place in the ODI side. He however has not been able to consolidate his position in the Test team yet.

Because of his elegance and ability to play shots on the on side, comparisons have been drawn between him and Mohammad Azhauddin. Pitted by many as a future captain, Mohammad Kaif is also an outstanding fielder. Along with Yuvraj Singh, he leads the youth brigade of great fielders that have emerged in the Indian team of late. Mohammed Kaif's wristy on drives bring a whiff of memories from the past when Mohammed Azharuddin used to be in full flow. Mohammed Kaif was the captain of the India Under-19 team that won the Youth World Cup in 2000. Mohammed Kaif bats with immense maturity and has the ability to pick his gaps with ease. He is also an excellent runner between the wickets and a brilliant fielder. Mohammed Kaif's showed his true class in 2002 NatWest series when he piled up 87 not out to successfully chase England's total of 326.

One area, which Mohammed Kaif would probably like to work on, would be establishing himself as a test player. He is not considered a suitable by many in that department and has consequently received few chances. In one-day cricket, Mohammed Kaif is part of a resurgent Indian team that is bracing up for the World Cup in 2007. livescore.warofcricket.com provides the profile of Mohammad Kaif and other cricketers around the world.
