Nari Contractor began his first class career by scoring centuries on both innings of his debut match. He thus became the second man after Arthur Morris to achieve such a feat. He went on to play 138 first class matches and scored 8611 at an average of little over 40.
Nari Contractor test career was cut short by a skull injury. The injury occurred when India was playing a warm up match against Barbados. Nari Contractor tried to evade a rising delivery from Charlie Griffith, but the ball kept low hitting him on his back skull. He was dangerously ill fro many hours.
After recovering fully in two years time, Nari Contractor resumed playing first class cricket. He made a determined effort to stage a comeback but failed to do so.
Nari Contractor is best remembered for his brave 81, which he made despite suffering from broken rib cage, against England.
