When Syed Kirmani replaced the very flamboyant Farokh Engineer as the Indian wicketkeeper in 1976, few thought he would emerge as the countries best wicketkeeper and have a long career of over 12 years. Syed Kirmani or "Kiri" as he was fondly called was a man of many talents. Apart from his brilliant wicket keeping, he was also a very good batsman and played many a good innings while baling the team out of a number of crunch situations. This was specially proven when he averaged 65 on a tour of New Zealand and scored 305 runs in the Australian tour. He has two Test centuries to his name. That he was good in the shorter version of the game as well is evident by the fact that his contributions to the 1983 World Cup winning side were many and invaluable. He played a total of 88 Tests and 49 ODIs. After retirement, he dabbled in Hindi movies and was also the Chairman of Selectors for a brief period in 2000.
