Vijay Hazare is seldom spoken of as one of the greats of Indian cricket, inspite of having a record stupendous enough to outshine many others. Perhaps, Vijay Hazare, a self-effacing man that he was, wanted it no different.
Vijay Harare played in 30 tests and 238 first-class cricket; and has left behind a decent mound of achievements. Some of them being-
First among the Indian cricketers to score two triple centuries in first-class cricket- 316 against Poona, while playing for Maharashtra in 1939-40, and 309 for Rest of India against the Hindus in 1943-44.

He also has the honor of being first Indian to reach fifty centuries in his first class career.
Vijay Hazare also captained India in 14 test matches. He led India to its first ever win in test cricket against England in 1951-52. Many believe that Vijay Hazare was a reluctant leader and the additional responsibility took a toll on his batting.
Vijay Hazare scored 2192 runs from his 30 tests at an average of 47.65; his first class record reads 18740 runs from 238 matches at an average of 58.38, besides he also has 595 wickets to his credit.
After his retirement, Vijay Hazare served as a selector for a brief period of time. An inter-zonal tournament in India called Vijay Hazare Trophy is held every year to acknowledge the services of this great soul.
