Younis Khan made his debut for Pakistan in 2000. He has been a very steady scorer of runs and in his 135 ODIs he has scored 3553 runs at an average of 31.72. He has however had a more impressive record in Tests where he has made 3884 runs in 47 matches at an average of 49.16. He is also a very good batsman and an occasional spinner. He was one of the very few players to be retained in the side after Pakistan's disastrous performance in the 2003 World Cup. Younis Khan however lost his place soon after when he failed to perform in a number of games against South Africa and Bangladesh. He came back in the series against India and was quite successful there. He made a career best of 257 runs against India in 2005 and helped Pakistan win the Test. He is considered as one of the best players of spin in the world. However he tends to get out to lbws a lot and this is one of his major shortcomings. He is presently Pakistan's vice captain and has a lot of potential to lead the squad one day.
