Full name Roshan Siriwardene Mahanama Born May 31, 1966, Colombo Major teams Sri Lanka, Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club, Colombo Cricket Club Playing role Batsman Batting style Right-hand bat
Roshan Mahanama was a very elegant stroke player and represented Sri Lanka from 1986-1998. Though he has a very ordinary average of 29.27 from 52 tests, he has enough reason to be proud, as he was a part of the world record partnership of 576 for the second wicket with Sanath Jayasuriya and that is the highest partnership in Test history. Mahanama made a staggering 225 runs and took Sri Lanka to 952 for 6, another Test record. However, Mahanama often failed to be consistent and made just three centuries from six tests in his most productive years between 1992 and 1994. He was also a part of the victorious World Cup team in 1996. He had a good World Cup and contributed whenever he batted. Apart from being a useful batsman, Mahanama was also one of the better fielders of his time. After retiring, he has taken the job of a match referee.
