| Indian Cricket Team's Recent Performances |
|
The Indian Cricket Team's recent performances have not been as good as the team's overall performance in the last few years. It should also be mentioned that the team has not played a lot of cricket either.
Tour of Sri Lanka, August 2006
India were scheduled to play an ODI series against Sri Lanka in August 2006. South Africa were also to be a part of the tournament. However a bomb blast just prior to the start of the tournament made South Africa pull out of it and it was left for India and Sri Lanka to face each other. However, there mad weather conditions forced the officials to abandon all the matches and the tournament was a complete washout, thereby denying India some much needed international cricket in their preparations for World Cup 2007.
Tour of West Indies, June-July 2006
The Indian Cricket Team had a rather disappointing Caribbean tour and lost to a weak West Indian side 4-1 in the ODI series. It put forth many weaknesses of the side and also put a big question mark to the team's capability to play quality cricket outside the Indian sub-continent. It was especially worrisome as the team performed poorly on the West Indies wickets-the place for the venue for World Cup 2007. The 1-0 win in the test series was hardly a consolation.
The team can not be put down completely as a reason for the poor performance may be the lack of match practice and injury to some top players. The team has suffered greatly in the absence of master blaster Sachin Tendulkar. So with the return of Tendulkar and some very innovative training camps, the team will surely get back to its old form soon.
