Rudra Pratap Singh first came into the limelight in the under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh in 2004, taking eight wickets at 24.75 apiece. Later that year he joined the long line of Indian left-arm seamers who have made an instant impact in the domestic season, taking 34 wickets in six Ranji Trophy games, the joint-highest for the season. His contributions in the World Cup helped Uttar Pradesh win the league phase of the Ranji one-day tournament in the Central Zone.
